Gold Book Scholarships 2009 for USA Citizens – Academic / Benevolence

One of the ways Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated has chosen to assist in alleviating some of the financial burden associated with a college education is through the Reach for the Gold Book Scholarships. There are two Reach for the Gold Book Scholarships.

  • The first is the Academic Book Scholarship which is awarded to a candidate demonstrating academic excellence.
  • The second is the Benevolence Book Scholarship which is awarded to a candidate demonstrating commitment and service to their community.

The Reach for the Gold Book Scholarships targets two women of color that are college-bound minority high school seniors. Each book scholarship is an award of $750 and is applied to the high costs of college textbooks in the first year of college. The award disbursement is as follows:

  • The first disbursement of $500 will be awarded August 2009 once proof of enrollment at an accredited college/university is submitted to Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated.
  • The second disbursement of $250 is awarded the following semester if the student has maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better and upon receipt of a Renewal Request Letter. The Renewal Request Letter must summarize your academic performance and community involvement during your first year of college and postmarked no later than January 15, 2010. This letter must be accompanied with an official transcript indicating your first semester GPA.
